If you’ve ever dreamed of sailing through untouched Caribbean waters, anchoring beside tiny private islands, and snorkeling some of the most vibrant reefs in the world—Belize delivers in a way few destinations can.
A yacht charter with The Moorings in Belize offers a completely different experience from the typical Caribbean itinerary. It’s quieter, more remote, and feels off-the-grid.
Instead of hopping between busy beach bars, you’ll be sailing along the edge of the second-largest barrier reef in the world, discovering hidden cayes, and experiencing a side of the Caribbean that still feels untouched.

Why Choose Belize for a Yacht Charter?
Belize is one of the most underrated sailing destinations in the Caribbean, and once you experience it, it’s easy to fall in love with this destination.
The entire coastline is protected by the Belize Barrier Reef which means:
- Calm, protected waters (perfect for first-time sailors or those that tend to get sea sick)
- Incredible snorkeling from your boat
- Endless remote islands (called cayes) to explore
Compared to some more popular destinations, Belize feels:
- Less crowded
- More adventurous
- More nature focused
We previously sailed a more popular destination, the BVIs, which is more about social sailing, popular beaches and beach clubs. You can read more about our experience in with a yacht charter in the Birtish Virgin Islands here!
Belize on the other hand was about wild beauty, marine life, and felt like a total escape! We were often the only yacht in snorkelling areas. But we also stopped at beach bars in the evening to

Our Experience Sailing Belize with The Moorings
Chartering a yacht with The Moorings makes the entire experience seamless, from the moment you arrive at the destination to the second you step on your yacht. And the best part is – you’ll have complete flexibility to design your dream itinerary.
The base in Belize is Placencia which is the perfect launch point for exploring southern Belize. This area is widely considered the most beautiful (and least crowded) part of the country while still being able to access the barrier reef.
Whether you choose:
- A bareboat charter (you sail yourself)
- A skippered charter (just a captian)
- Or a fully crewed experience (this is what we did and HIGHLY recommend)
Fully Crewed Yacht Charter Experience
The Moorings team truly provides a 5 star experience when it comes to a fully crewed yacht charter. The full crewed yacht charter is all-inclusive (food and drinks) and includes a fully customized meal plan to your group. Leading up to the trip our entire group was sent a survey which included questions about preferences for the food we like, dietary restrictions, portion sizes as well as the type of beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) we would like to have onboard.
Each day we were served breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as some appetizers in the afternoon. Snacks were also included on the boat to have at any time (our chef stocked up on Oreos, chips and fruit but you can put in a request for your favourites).
If you enjoy water-sports, then you will definitely enjoy having unlimited use of Paddle boards and Kayaks onboard! Belize is known for its beautiful blue, calm water, so you will be sure to get a lot of use out of all of these.
Our Yacht
We sailed on the Moorings 4600 Yacht. You can read more about this specific yacht here. But it sleeps 6 people and has 1 captain and 1 chef included in the Crewed Yacht Charter.
All 3 guest cabins are below the main deck and include a comfortable queen sized bed and storage, and each cabin has an ensuite bathroom.
The main deck has a small table, a kitchen and is air conditioned. On the main deck, there is a large table at the back where we had all of our meals. It was covered and outdoors so we had great views from the table. There are also 2 nets at the front of the yacht and a small seating area that is covered. The second deck has an open air seating area that gives great panoramic views as you sail and was a great place to watch the sunrise or sunset!
The CREW
From the moment we arrived, Captain Eggy and Chef Emerson made our group feel welcome. Once we did the initial safety briefing – they showed us around the different areas of the Yacht and to our cabins. We then made an itinerary for the week. Our captain discussed a few different options depending on what our group was most interested in and also the weather forecast.
Throughout our trip, our Captain and Chef continuously checked in with us to give us updates on our itinerary based on weather. Their priority is safety so they made sure we got to see almost everything we wanted to in the safest way possible.
Chef Emerson ensured that we were well fed for every meal. He went above and beyond to make our experience special by catering our meals to our group. He even gave the girls onboard a cooking lesson for his world famous conch fritters! Chef also provided turn down service for our rooms each day.
Our Daily Itinerary
Each day was a different but followed a pretty similar schedule. Our entire group is early risers so Chef always had coffee and tea ready for us when we woke up. He then prepared breakfast as the Captain gave us a few options for a morning snorkelling spot. Once our morning destination was decided, Chef served breakfast as we sailed. Once we arrived we were ready to get into the water – we had encounters with turtles, nurse sharks, colourful coral reefs and a variety of amazing fish.
Lunch was ready for us once we got back onboard and then we sailed to our afternoon destination. Chef usually had some type of snack for us and made a few rounds of drinks – our personal favourite was his version of a Mudslide. After some time sailing, we made it to our afternoon snorkelling spot or an island with a beach bar to watch the sunset. And ended our night with an incredible dinner.

Other Things To Know Before Your Yacht Charter
The Moorings is one of the leading Yacht Charter providers in the Caribbean and they have over 20 destinations around the world that they operate out of. So to say the least, you are in good hands!
This is the Best Group Trip
Looking for an unforgettable holiday with a group of your family and friends? Then you NEED to charter a Yacht with The Moorings. The team truly goes above and beyond to make your vacation special and every aspect of this trip is tailored to your group.
Tips for Packing
We highly recommend packing as light as possible as there is not a ton of storage onboard. The crew stored our luggage in the hull once we had unpacked to make sure our cabins weren’t crowded. Make sure to bring your own snorkel mask as The Moorings does not provide them. Also make sure to bring sun screen (reef safe), and bug spray for any shore landings for sand flies. We also highly recommend a UPF Rash guard for snorkelling – we love this one from Amazon.
Final Thoughts
If you are looking for an unforgettable experience with your friends and family, then we cannot recommend chartering a Yacht with The Moorings enough. Whether you choose to navigate the Yacht yourself, or indulge in the all inclusive fully crewed experience, this is a bucket list trip.
