When we started planning our trip to the French Polynesia, we knew that one Island we could not miss was Bora Bora. Bora Bora is a dream destination that has been at the top of our bucket list for a long time! We can tell you, it is absolutely worth all of the hype. Our first stop was at the InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort, and it is just as beautiful in person as the photos.
We started our Island hopping adventure in Tahiti! We stayed at the InterContinental Tahiti Resort and Spa (Read more here). From Tahiti, we flew into the Bora Bora Airport where we were whisked away to our Overwater Bungalow at the InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort. This is one of the only resorts located on the main Island of Bora Bora. We highly recommend spending a few nights on the main Island of Bora Bora, for the chance to explore local shops and restaurants!
The InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort
The InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort is the perfect place to start your Bora Bora adventure. We spent 2 nights at this amazing resort, which again had the perk of being located on the main island. Being on the main island, this made for unique views of the famous Mount Otemanu, and a very shallow lagoon!
Accommodations
Overwater Bungalows
The InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort has mostly overwater bungalows! We stayed in a Horizon Overwater Bungalow right at the end of the dock. Our bungalow had a luxury king size bed, a soaking tub and walk in shower. In the living room, there was a very unique feature of a glass coffee table which slides open to be able to feed the fish below! The Resort plants Coral Gardens below each Bungalow to attract fish. We thought this was such a unique and thoughtful idea. At nighttime, you can turn a light on below, and watch the fish from above!
Outside there was a large deck with lounge chairs. And a ladder for direct access into the ocean. The lagoon that Le Moana is built on is very shallow (up to Jake’s stomach), which made it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. We even spotted Eagle Rays and Sting Rays right from our deck!
Beach Bungalows
The InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort also has luxury beach bungalows. Each bungalow has a similar set up to the Overwater Bungalows, but instead you get to run out directly onto the beach and into the lagoon. All right from your bed! We think this is a great concept if you are looking to be closer to the main action of the resort. Also, this would be a great way to travel with families as there is plenty of beach to play on, without having to worry about a deck leading to deep water!

Resort Amenities
The InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort is decorated with traditional Polynesian decor, and plenty of open air dining spaces. The Resort has a large white sand beach right on the property with direct access to a shallow, warm lagoon with plenty of snorkeling opportunities. Included with your stay are paddle boards, kayaks, traditional Polynesian canoes and snorkeling equipment right on the beach!
The Resort has an infinity freshwater pool overlooking the ocean and the Overwater Bungalows. The pool has plenty of lounge chairs surrounding, making it the perfect place to get a tan. On the beach, there are many chairs and huts which are just as comfortable, but more popular, so get one early!
The Resort itself is very quaint. Everything is close together, making it easy to access any part of the Resort quickly. Although, we never felt crowded as there were plenty of spaces to spread out and enjoy your own space. We loved that there were so many options for relaxing, whether it be at the pool, at the beach, or on the deck of our Overwater Bungalow!
They also offer daily activities that highlight Polynesian Culture! We had the opportunity to learn to make our own Poisson Cru! It was so good. They also have Flower Crown and Palm Weaving classes.
Restaurants
Noa Noa Restaurant
Noa Noa restaurant is the Resort’s main restaurant. They have a great buffet breakfast which you have the option of adding to your stay (we recommend it, otherwise it is expensive). The breakfast buffet options were endless, with lots of tropical fruit, local bread and jams and a made to order egg station!
Along with breakfast, Noa Noa also serves an a la carte Lunch and Dinner menu! They also have special theme nights with Polynesian Shows and a specialty buffet.
VINI VINI Bar and Restaurant
Vini Vini is the other bar and restaurant located on the Resort. The bar offers an early evening happy hour, which we definitely took advantage of! They also have an a la carte tapas menu.
ROMANTIC DINNER ON THE BEACH
The InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort set up a private romantic dinner on the beach for us. We dinned under the stars, drank some excellent wine and had one of the best meals of our trip! It would be a perfect opportunity to spend the evening with someone you love.
Resort Location
The Resort’s location is incredibly convenient. Being located on the main Island, means that you can venture off the Resort and explore more of the Island.
Directly across the street from the Resort is Matira Beach, which is a 5km long public beach. With white sand and bright blue ocean water, it is a great place to spend the day soaking up the sun. It is also the best place to watch the sunset!
Located in the City of Matira, there are a lot of shops, a small grocery store and a few locally owned restaurants within steps of the lobby. This is a great opportunity to meet local people and get some locally made souvenirs.
If you are looking to visit The InterContinental Bora Bora Resort and Thalasso Spa (Le Moana’s sister property), you can purchase a day trip ticket from the Concierge desk!
Final Thoughts
Bora Bora is a dream destination for many, and the InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort is the perfect place to kick start your adventure! Located on the main island, Le Moana offers a unique opportunity to explore local shops and restaurants. There is also plenty of places to relax and enjoy the sun. Whether it is on the beach, by the pool or on the deck of your overwater bungalow. Snorkel amongst hundreds of tropical fish or spot a Sting Ray from the deck. This place is truly magical.
Overall, we highly recommend a stay at the InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort during your visit to Bora Bora!
