We booked our trip to Tulum in the midst of a snow storm. Was it impulsive? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely! Tulum, Mexico is one of the hottest tropical destinations right now and it is so easy to see why! It is the perfect mix of white sand beaches, turquoise water, and deep jungle greens. The vibe is laid back but there are plenty of opportunities to have some incredible adventures. All while snapping some of the most beautiful photos for your Instagram feed along the way! This list could be endless, but we have narrowed it down to some of our favorites!

azulik tulum
If Bali and Mexico had a baby, it would be Azulik. This stunning hotel is an oceanfront, real-life treehouse that reignites the child in all of us. Not only is Azulik fun to explore, the photo opportunities here are endless! From hammock-like nets with endless views of the Mayan Jungle, to their incredible art gallery, Ik Lab, and the wooden bridges suspended above the trees, this place is an insagrammer’s dream!
*Note: If you are not a hotel guest, there is a minimum spend at the resort of approximately $50USD.
Kin Toh
Located at Azulik Tulum, Kin Toh is a stunning restaurant in the sky with the hammock-like nets that you see all over your Instagram feed! It is also home to the nests overlooking the Mayan Jungle. We loved our experience here! The manager brought us out to the nests to take some photos and the sunset was absolutely incredible. We highly recommend visiting here!
*Note: You can visit by either making a reservation or waiting in line prior to their nightly opening at 5:30pm! If you do not plan on dining here, there is a minimum spend at the bar!
Hotelito Azul
Let us just start by saying we love this place. This was the hotel we chose to spend our week in Tulum at, and when we go back to Tulum we will be staying at Hotelito Azul again. This beachfront boutique hotel boasts beautiful white sand beaches, beachfront villas and all the boho vibes. The hotel grounds make you feel like you are exploring a beach side jungle! There are so many places to take beautiful insta worthy photos here, the only problem you will have is deciding which ones to post first!
*Note: You can also access this hotel via Tulum beach if you do not intend on being a guest! Order yourself a perfectly crafted cocktail and choose from an array of yummy food options while soaking up the sun in one of their unique cabanas.
Coco Tulum
Just a short walk down the beach from Hotelito Azul you will find yourself sipping drinks on beachfront swings! This all white oasis has possibly the dreamiest beachfront bar in Tulum! There are a limited number of swings available so make sure to get there early to snap your pictures.
Mia tulum Beach Club
Mia is home to the insta famous La Cebolla also known as “the onion”. We spotted this cute little structure right off the beach! Like most places on this list, it is best to arrive early so that you can the optimal shot before the beach club gets too busy!
raw love tulum
Raw Love might have been our favorite breakfast place in Tulum (Bold statement? Perhaps. But, get the Avacado Toast, you will thank us later). Not only are they serving up the prettiest food, the entire restaurant feels like you are dining in a boho paradise with wooden tables in a jungle setting and dream catchers galore!
*Note: Raw Love is found within Ahau Tulum Beach Hotel! At the roadside entrance you will find “Ven a La Luz”, the beautiful piece of art crafted by Daniel Popper!
Matcha Mama
This tiny smoothie shack might be one of the most Instagrammed places in Tulum! With clever signage and wooden swings, it is very easy to see why. With only 6 swings, it fills up fast, make sure to get their early!
*Note: As of December 2019, all of the signage has moved, and now is arranged like in our photo below.
Follow That Dream Sign
This popular sign can be found at Lolita & Lolita Boutique! Just a short walk up the road from Matcha Mama, these spots can easily be hit at the same time! Time to share that inspirational quote you have pinned!
grand cenote
A trip to anywhere in the Yucatan Peninsula calls for visiting at least one of the over 6000 cenotes! The Grand Cenote is just a short taxi ride from the Tulum Beach Area. This cenote has some of clearest water that we have ever seen! You might even spot some turtles!
*Note: There are strict rules here which include no professional cameras, no tripods and they do make you shower completely before entering the cenote!
cenote calavera
This cenote is for the adventurous souls! Jump in through small openings in the rock face, or climb in using the ladder, this cenote is SO much fun. There are so many possibilities for Instagram shots here! Also if you have a GoPro, this is the perfect place to get some awesome footage. We loved this cenote. So worth the visit!
*Note: Cenote Calavera is just a short drive from the Grand Cenote, which makes it easy to do these both in one day! Also, we used our professional camera and tripod to help achieve our shot here.
instagram worthy places outside of tulum
Up for a road trip? We rented a car to bring us to a few bucket list spots located outside of Tulum!
chichen itza
Being one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, there was no question that we had to visit this historical site during our visit to Tulum. Located approximately 2 hours outside of Tulum, it is very easy to navigate here and is very much worth the visit!
*Note: Arrive early as this is a popular destination on many tours from Cancun! Also be aware that there is a fee if you want to use a tripod!
Cenote Ik Kil
Located just a short drive away from Chichen Itza, this Cenote is stunning and we highly recommend making the trip here if you can! Arrive early to avoid crowds and capture some incredible photos that feature the long hanging vines and lush greenery.
*Note: This Cenote is highly commercialized with a gift shop and restaurant and is a popular spot for tour buses! This Cenote also requires a shower before entering and no makeup can be worn to protect the sensitive eco-system.
Cenote Suytun
Cenote Suytun reminds us of a scene straight out of a Tomb Raider or an Indiana Jones movie. This Cenote is located in an underground cave and might be one of the most incredible places we have ever seen! There is a small opening at the top of the cave that let’s a light beam in that is so magical to see! This place makes for some amazing photos, we highly recommend making the trip to see it.
*Note: This Cenote get very busy in the afternoon. Arriving early will ensure that you are one of the very few (if any) people there!
