What we love about the Caribbean is each Island has it’s own unique scenery, culture and offerings. St Kitts and it’s neighboring Island Nevis are no different. St Kitts offers towering volcanic mountains, the Atlantic Ocean to one side of the Island and Caribbean Sea to the other and beautiful beaches. There is no shortage of things to do on the Island.
In this blog post, we will be sharing our detailed guide of the beautiful Island’s of St Kitts and Nevis.
How To Get To St Kitts
Fly
The easiest way to get to St Kitts is via flight! If you are interested in direct flights, there are many locations across the United States, Canada and England that provide this flight itinerary. If not, there are many short connections available.
Cruise Ship
St Kitts is a frequent stop of Cruise Ships! The main port is Port Zante in Basseterre (the capitol city of St Kitts).
Boat
If you are staying on the neighboring of Nevis, there is the option of fast ferries to and from St Kitts which takes about 6-8 minutes.
Getting Around St Kitts
We HIGHLY recommend hiring a taxi when you are visiting St Kitts. Due to the history of the Island, they do drive on the left side of the road, and in the right side of the car. This makes it very confusing for tourists visiting from North America, and if you are not familiar with driving that way, then you are a risk to yourself, your passengers and others on the road!
Alvin was our taxi driver while we were on St Kitts and we cannot say enough good things about him. Not only was he extremely professional and punctual, he has so much love for his Island. While driving us to and from different places, he ensured to give us the full history of the Island, even stopping at a few lookouts for a great photo op!
Not only does Alvin provide Taxi services, he also does complete Island Tours! So if you are only stopping on the Island for a day, or looking for someone to give you all the history of the Island, he is your guy!
If you are heading to St Kitts, then please give Alvin a call! He will take such good care of you! You can contact him here! (This is no way sponsored, we just love to support local, and deserves endless support)
When To Visit St Kitts
The peak season is from December to May! In January the Island celebrates their carnival. The dry season is considered February to May, however when we visited in early January, we had a few short rain showers in the morning and then sunshine all day!
Where To Stay in St Kitts
Park Hyatt St Kitts
We stayed at the beautiful Park Hyatt St Kitts located on the southern most point of the Island of St Kitts. Park Hyatt. Not only is the property stunning, there are 3 incredible restaurants on the property, 2 pools, and each room has an unobstructed view of Nevis!
We stayed in the Plunge Pool Rooftop Suite. We loved the spacious living space, a deep soaking tub, a large terrace and a Plunge Pool!

Sunset Reef
This luxury boutique hotel is new to the Island and makes quite the mark. Located on Palmetto Point, the 7 suite hotel offers unobstructed views of the Caribbean Sea and the best view of the Sunset on the Island. With an infinity pool overlooking the ocean, a cliffside bar, and a restaurant serving up fresh seafood, this would make an excellent stay for someone looking for privacy and tranquility.
Liamuiga Natural Farms
Located 1500 feet above sea level, there is a small cabin available for rent on this stunning natural farm. We had the pleasure of touring this cabin during our visit to the farm (more on that below). With a fully functional kitchen, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms, this would be a great getaway for a small family or a group of friends! While staying here, you have full access to the farm to pick anything you would like to cook!
Things To Do In St Kitts
Zip lining
If you are looking for an adrenaline rush, than Zip Lining is the perfect activity! Seeing St Kitts from the treetops was truly incredible. Sky Safari Tours, located on Wingfield Estate, offers an incredible journey over 5 Zip Lines at 250 feet above the rain forest below. With experienced guides taking you through the journey, this is a great activity for people 6 years and older!
Rum Tasting
Located on the WIngfield Estate is one of the oldest rum distilleries in the Caribbean (from 1681!). Old Road Rum Company offers tours of the distillery and tastings of their bourbon cask aged Rum. Everyone working here was so passionate and were so excited about the return of rum making to the Island. The Rum is made in small batches and is aged for 12 years! We think this is a must do activity on St Kitts!
Liamuiga Natural Farms
This was hands down one of our favorite experiences on St Kitts. Liamuiga Natural Farm is locally owned and is located on Mount Liamuiga! With the majority of their concentration on locally grown coffee, this farm is run by a very passionate group of people with extensive knowledge of permaculture. Their environmentally conscious way of farming means sustainably grown crops without pesticides. We had an amazing morning here touring the farm and their Airbnb! The prepared us an incredible breakfast and lunch made with ingredients from the farm. You need to add this place to your St Kitts bucketlist.
Take a Day Trip TO Nevis
The neighboring Island of Nevis is a tranquil and untouched Island that is absolutely worth visiting during your trip. We did a tour with Nevis Sun Tours! Their team picks you up right at the dock and whisks you away in a comfortable and spacious van. We learned about some of the history of the Island, including visiting Alexander Hamilton’s childhood home, a previous sugar cane factory, and also trying the famous “Killer Bee” drink!
To get here, you can take a water taxi from the public dock located on the south side of the Island or from Park Hyatt St Kitts.
